Program Structure

The PGCE program at Eton University is structured as a 6 months, hybrid-learning, full-time course that consists of three units with a combined total of 60 UK credits, 600 hours of TQT, 30 Guided Learning Hours. The course can also be taken part-time with more flexibility and completed over 9 months and studied through distance learning with tutor support.

  • For entry onto the Waey PGCE program, learners must:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field

  • Learner should be 20 years or older at the beginning of the course

  • previous experience in teaching, training or lecturing 

  • English requirements: If a learner is not a national of an English-speaking country, they must provide evidence of English language competency* at a standard equivalent to the levels identified below, 

  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2

  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) 51

  • IELTS overall score of 5.5; Reading and Writing with no score lower than 5.5; or ISE  as an equivalent (ISE stands for integrated Skills in English exams)

  • Candidates who do not have evidence of English competency can take an internal exam with Eton University which is offered in collaboration with Think English. This internal exam is offered to Eton University applicants at the exclusive rate of $45.

Assessment

    • To assess the knowledge of the modules, students will be required to deliver written 2,000 words essays for each module including lesson plans and scheme of works. Additionally, students will be requested to deliver a teaching presentation as a part of internal observation. Guidance will be provided for the completion of written work. As the assessments will be of a written nature, they will be involving independent reading and research.

    • Students are graded on their submitted assignments. To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Detailed feedback will be provided online by the assessor. If a student failed an assignment, one re-submission will be allowed with changes applied according to the feedback. All units within this phase are assessed internally by Eton University.

    • To obtain a PGCE candidates must fulfil the following requirements:   

      • A pass in all modules and a successful completion of 60 credits in total

Unit 1: The History and Philosophy of Education 

This unit explores the influence of philosophers on education, tracing their perspectives and pedagogies. Learners will delve into history to understand the foundational values that shaped education. Comparisons will be made between Greek philosophers and modern educational theorists, analyzing their teachings’ impact on the learning environment. Key theories like behaviorism, constructivism, and humanism, along with knowledge retention techniques, will also be introduced.

Unit 2: The Theories of Learning and Mechanisms of Contemporary Teaching for Both Young Learners and Adults

This module aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of learning theories, classroom management, and contemporary teaching methods for both young learners and adults. It focuses on observing and guiding students with Autism and ADHD. Additionally, the module explores the latest teaching approaches to adapt to changes in education. By the end of the module, students will have a critical understanding of learning theories and practical applications, enabling them to design effective teaching strategies for diverse learners.

Unit 3: Strategies of Teaching and Assessment in Higher Education

This unit is designed to facilitate the professional development of educators in the higher education and vocational training sector. Additionally, the unit seeks to discern and distinguish between various types of assessment and evaluation techniques, with the ultimate goal of advancing the overall quality of teaching and fostering higher levels of student satisfaction.

      • Students will study this program through our Hybrid Learning model.

      • This virtual study mode allows flexibility and expert-led teaching to be accessed from anywhere. Students only need their laptop and a stable internet connection. This course contains 30 hours with an expert tutor. Sessions are recorded and available to be rewatched at any time through the learning portal. The learning management system gives students access to course materials and resources relevant to the study programme, such as textbooks, presentations, case studies and guides. If required, additional private tuition hours can be booked
